We're looking at ways to improve documentation compliance and the idea of relying on an electronic specimen log generated out of our EMR came up. Has anyone else had success in using something like this, including going through a CLIA or COLA inspection?

While I have no experience in using this type of log out of the EHR, I have utilized such a log out of the LIS with much success. Are you using this EHR generated log off site from the main lab? What is the purpose of this log? To track samples for outreach?
Perhaps another Lab-Ask user can chime in here.

Yes, it would replace our current specimen log that we use to track samples collected and either tested in-house or sent off to our reference lab. Our IS staff can help determine what elements are captured, just want to proceed carefully if we do so we satisfy our regs.
