I was told that we should not do PT testing on waived test or it will change the status from waived to moderately complex.  Talked with API and they disagreed with what I was told. Can you clarify this for me?

Hi, PT testing is not required for waived testing per CLIA unless otherwise specified by your accreditation agency or the state. If you perform PT on a waived test it does not change your complexity. The complexity of a test may be changed if you do not follow the manufacturer’s guidelines such as preferred sample (i.e. serum versus plasma) or incubation times. It is good lab practice to perform PT on all analytes tested in the laboratory including waived testing.
